I am a Big Fat Chicken!
71Tomorrow is the big day.
I am having what they (who is "they" anyway?) refer to as a "minor" surgery. It's a lumpectomy for an early breast cancer.
Okay, so it was caught early. Okay, so it's not life threatening (yet). Okay, so it is outpatient surgery and not a big deal (according to who?). Okay, so I am a big, fat chicken.
I hate being poked and prodded. I have had 3 children and it's a wonder I made it through that, wuss that I am. I have had two surgeries in my life (hand surgery and hysterectomy years ago), and both times I was, you guessed it, a big, fat chicken. I admit it, I am petrified.
Hubby is being VERY supportive. I am still scared to death. I don't know what I am afraid of, but I am afraid.
I will be put to sleep and then wake up and it's done. What's to be scared of?
I don't know....except I am.
So, tomorrow, let's get this mess over with!

Hello, moonstruck4ever,
I wish you the very best and thank you Lord "it was caught in time."
I can relate to what you are saying. I do wish you luck. I am a bigger fatter chicken than you are though.
Last April I almost died and had to have open heart surgery. I did not have time to think about being scared. It had to be done right away.
It turned out fine but I am glad I did not have to think about it before hand.
I had a friend a few years ago that had cervical cancer. She put it off and put it off. Then it was too late. She was only 40 and they kept telling her she was really ill. She just avoided it.
She left 3 almost adult children and now has 3 grand babies she will never know.
So, just smile think about your loved ones and how much they love you and need you. You will draw your strength from them.
Best of Luck and will be thinking about you all day. Please update your blog once you are feeling better. Would love to hear how well you are doing.
There's a lot of us big, fat chickens out here, my dear -- you're not alone. I had a similar surgery many years ago and was just as frightened as I know you are. It was the best decision I ever made to have that surgery and you'll probably come to that idea to -- when it's all over and done. I think the dread of the surgery was nearly worse than the surgery itself when all was said and done. Prayers and blessings to you. Best, Sis
Dear moonstruck,
My thoughts are with you. You'll do fine!
Ah, yes, those wonderful pain meds! Aren't they fun?
I'm glad all is well.
Merry Christmas!!!!
I am glad to hear that you made it through your surgery well. I am praying for you that this will be the last you have to deal with. And, for the record, I don't think that you are a big, fat chicken - I think you are brave for sharing this!
I think we are right to be scared for any surgery. Any and all surgery always is dangerous, especially if you are put under anesthesia. Yes, we've made giant leaps in medical advances, but the human body is unpredictable, so we should be wary of poking, prodding, cutting, even if it is laproscopic. I am glad you are well, and happy you caught it early.
Moonstruck,
I can totally appreciate cowardice when needing medical attention. I'm right there with you and hate the idea of it just as much.
I do hope your feeling much better, and the procedure went well.
My best to you!
